Let’s take a look at the final four benefits of regular exercise!
Regular Exercise Helps You Sleep Better
According to research done by the South African Memory Resource Centre, regular exercise – ideally in the morning – can help you fall asleep faster and enjoy a better quality of sleep.
“Exercise also indirectly promotes healthier sleep patterns because it stimulates the release of endorphins, which results in a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation,” explain Santa Monica fitness instructors.
Regular Exercise Can Keep a Stroke At Bay
According to a study that was published in the October 2013 issue of the medical journal Stroke, people who exercised regularly were 27% less likely to suffer from a stroke than those who are inactive. This isn’t hard to believe when you consider that regular exercise lowers blood pressure, fights cholesterol, stabilizes insulin levels, burns unhealthy fat and stimulates blood circulation, all of which help to prevent blood clots.
Circuit Training Promotes Better Mental Health
Our minds and bodies are intimately intertwined, so it stands to reason that the regular exercise afforded by circuit training or interval training classes not only improves your physical health, but also your mental health. According to sports psychologist D.R. Brown in his article, “Exercise, Fitness and Mental Health” (1990), exercise:
Offers a distraction from the daily frustrations and stresses,
Encourages us to interact with other people socially,
Raises our core body temperature, which has been shown to combat muscle tension,
Stimulates the production of internal opiates, such as endorphins, which contribute to a greater feeling of happiness and wellbeing.
Has an effect on the key hormones that control our anxiety levels and moods, such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.
Can make us feel more in control of our bodies, our lives and ourselves.
So, Santa Monica fitness clubs offer people the opportunity to improve their bodies and their overall wellbeing.
Circuit Training is Great for Joint Health
Here are a few more, slightly obvious benefits of regular circuit training and interval training at one of Santa Monica’s fitness centers:
Increased muscle strength and bone strength,
Greater muscle mass (which is what makes your beach body look so enviable),
Improved joint function and strength.
This latter point is especially important for Santa Monica residents who suffer from arthritis or any other kind of condition that causes pain and inflammation of the joints. By coming in to your local Circuit Training gym regularly, you can improve the strength of your joints as well as their mobility, staving off some of the more debilitating symptoms of this terrible disease.

Fitness Center Instructors in Santa Monica Explain the 15 Health Benefits of Regular Exercise, PART 2
Welcome to the second installment of this
four-part article series on the incredibly varied benefits of regular circuit
training at your local Fitness Center Santa Monica. In our previous article post, Part 1, our panel of
experienced fitness experts explained the following four benefits, all of which
are proven and supported by medical literature. Let’s take a look at what was
covered before moving on.
Regular circuit training or interval
training exercise:
- Is Good For Heart Health
- Can Help You Lose Weight and Look Great
- Can Prevent Creaky, Brittle Bones
- Can Lower Your Blood Pressure
- Circuit Training is Great for Busting Stress
If you
live in Los Angeles, chances are you’ve become acquainted with stress. If
you’re human, then you have most definitely become acquainted
with stress and one of the best ways to give stress the boot is NOT to eat
chocolate and drink red wine: effective maybe, but not as healthy and effective
as a good workout at your local fitness center in Santa Monica.
“People
rarely dwell on the things that cause them frustration, stress and anxiety
while working out and if they do, that negative emotion gets channeled directly
into the exercise and then released,” say circuit training instructors.
“Exercise also releases cerebral chemicals such as endorphins, which, similar
to eating chocolate and certain bedtime activities, make you feel happy.
Exercise also reduces the physical symptoms of stress, such as muscle tension,
stiffness and pain.”
- Circuit Training Can Actually Help Prevent Colds and Flu
We’ve all
heard the warnings: never exercise when you have a cold. But did you know that
exercise could actually leave your body more immune to the common viruses that
leave you sneezing and in bed with a fever? According to research done at the
University of Carolina, 23% of the test subjects they studied were less likely
to contract the flu because they exercised more frequently. They were also less
likely to suffer from severe or extended bouts of flu than those who didn’t
exercise regularly.
“The
biggest concern when it comes to circuit training while ill with a cold or the
flu is the strain exercise puts on your heart. While it’s best to talk to your
doctor, the general rule of thumb is that if the symptoms are restricted to
your nose, throat and sinuses and you basically feel okay, it is all right to
engage in light exercise until you have healed. But if the symptoms affect your
lungs – such as bronchitis – or you feel sick,
weak and have a fever, you absolutely need to rest up and get better before you
hit your local fitness center in Santa Monica. This is not only for your own
good, but you don’t want to give everyone else the flu as well!”
- Regular Exercise Can Reduce Complications Associated with Diabetes
Diabetes is
commonly a lifestyle disease and is the result of chronic unhealthy eating,
smoking, drinking and not enough exercise. By improving the way you live and by
visiting your local fitness center in Santa Monica three or more times per
week, you can reduce your body’s insulin needs, lower your blood pressure, lose
unhealthy weight, improve your blood circulation and bring down your
cholesterol. Through all of this, you not only reduce your risk of stroke and
cardiovascular disease, you also eliminate many of the complications associated
with diabetes.

Santa Monica Gym Instructors Explain the 15 Health Benefits of Regular Exercise, PART 1
Summer
is here and with the heat comes the desire to peel off that business suit and
hit the beach. That is, until you see what the winter has done to your
physique. Now, while regular exercise can help you to stay in shape and keep
your body beach-ready, its health benefits go far beyond converting flab to
fab. From increased stamina, energy and libido to a healthier brain, heart,
joints and sex life, circuit training classes at one of Santa Monica Gyms can help you to enjoy peak physical and mental
health and a world class life.
In
this four-part article series, Santa Monica gym instructors explain to us the
incredible whole body health benefits of getting up off the couch and back into
action! These benefits are proven and supported by medical literature.
- It’s Good For Heart Healt
According
to an article published by the Duke University Medical Center in The New
England Journal of Medicine, regular
exercise is great for the health of your heart in many more ways than one. It
has been shown to reduce blood pressure and the bad cholesterol (LDL
cholesterol) that tends to accumulate in your arteries. Regular circuit
training classes at one of Santa Monica’s gyms also exercises your heart, which is a muscle after
all, and this helps it to function more effectively. Additionally, with
increased blood flow, there is a lesser risk of clotting, which can cause
serious and potentially fatal health problems.
- Lose Weight and Look Great
“Exercise
burns calories, which causes your body to make use of the energy it would
otherwise store as fat. If you burn more calories than you consume, you will
lose unwanted weight,” explain circuit training instructors. “The key to weight
loss success is consistency. Maintain a healthy diet, no yo-yo dieting, and
enjoy a workout three to four times per week, per month.”
- Prevent Creaky, Brittle Bones
“Regular
exercise can help prevent the development of conditions such as osteoporosis,
especially if done in conjunction with a good intake of calcium,” say Santa
Monica gym instructors. “Keeping your bones healthy and strong is a lifelong
commitment and the payout is huge if you’ve ever met someone suffering from
osteoporosis and seen the degree to which they struggle.”
- Lower Your Blood Pressure
“Doctors
and other medical healthcare professionals say it all the time: high blood
pressure and cholesterol are silent killers. It doesn’t matter how old you are,
how much you weigh and what your lifestyle and gender is: regular exercise can
lower your blood pressure, which in turn benefits your heart and your health
immensely. If you’ve been diagnosed with abnormally high blood pressure in the
past, exercise alone may be insufficient and you should speak to your doctor
about going on some kind of medication,” advise Interval Training instructors.
